چکیده

Isoflavone, Biochanin A, Dihydrobiochanin A, Phenylacetic acids, Fusarium javanicum After a lag-phase of 1 h a mycelial suspension of Fusarium javanicum completely degraded 5,7-dihydroxy-4'-methoxyisoflavone (biochanin A) to a series of transiently accumulating catabolites. The compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic techniques and are arranged in the first known degradative pathway for an isoflavone: biochanin A -* dihydrobiochanin A -* 3-(/?-methoxyphenyl)-4,6-diketo-5,6-dihydro-4H-pyran -* />-methoxyphenylacetic acid -*■ p-hydroxyphenylacetic acid -*■ 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid -*■ C 0 2. The carbon atoms of bio chanin A not accounted for by this sequence are discussed in relation to microbial flavonoid pathways.

Demethylation, Methylation and 3'-Hydroxylation of Isoflavones bv Fusarium Fungi

Isoflavones, Fusarium, Methylation, Demethylation, 3'-Hydroxylation, Metabolism Several introductionary reactions of isoflavone metabolism by Fusarium fungi are reported. Fu sarium avenaceum hydroxylates formononetin in the 3'-position yielding 3',7-dihydroxy-4'-methoxyisoflavone (calycosin). 3'-Hydroxylation of biochanin A to 3/,5,7-trihydroxy-4/-methoxyisoflavone (pratensein) has been observ...

Degradation of the Isoflavone Biochanin A and Its Glucoside Conjugates by Ascochyta rabiei.

Strains of Ascochyta rabiei which are pathogenic to chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) readily catabolized the main chickpea isoflavone biochanin A (5,7-dihydroxy-4'-methoxyisoflavone). 3'-Hydroxylation and O-demethylation reactions led to the isoflavones pratensein, genistein, and orobol, which were rapidly further degraded. Dihydrogenistein and p-hydroxyphenylacetic acid were also identified as ca...

Variable isoflavone content of red clover products affects intestinal disposition of biochanin A, formononetin, genistein, and daidzein.

BACKGROUND Marketed red clover (Trifoleum pratense) products use a wide variety of labels, and the isoflavone content from the label is ambiguous. MATERIALS AND METHODS In the present study, we analyzed the content of various isoflavone products, and determined (1) the content and (2) how the sample matrix of red clover products affects the intestinal disposition of main isoflavones within it...

Biochanin A similarly influences the fluidity of liposomes formed from charged and zwitterionic lipids.

Biochanin A is a naturally occurring isoflavone, most commonly found in legumes, especially in soya beans or in red clover. The spectrum of biochanin As biological activities is very wide: it displays antioxidative, cardioprotective, anti-inflammatory, anticancer and enzyme inhibitory properties. At least some of those activities may involve the interaction of biochanin A with the lipid phase o...

The role of metabolism in mammary epithelial cell growth inhibition by the isoflavones genistein and biochanin A.

The basis for the differential sensitivity of cultured normal human mammary epithelial (HME) cells and a transformed human breast cancer MCF-7 cell line to growth inhibition by the isoflavone genistein and its 4'-methyl ether derivative, biochanin A, was examined. In HME cells genistein is 5-fold more potent as a growth inhibitor than biochanin A, whereas in MCF-7 cells biochanin A and genistei...
